2016 is almost over.
How did that even happen!? It feels like we were just ringing in the last New Year yesterday.
Originally I was going to chat about my New Year’s resolutions today, but I decided that I would make that post the first blog post of 2017. So, instead I am talking about how I am kicking it into high gear – BEFORE the New Year.
Okay, so what does this mean for me? This means starting to build healthy habits again now before 2017 hits.
This includes things like positive self talk, exercising more consistently, drinking lots of water, reading, and eating more veggies.
I will elaborate more on Monday with the details as to WHAT my resolutions are, but I figured by getting back to basics, I will already be practicing the things I would like to continue in the New Year. While I try to be mindful about healthy habits year round, there is something about the thought of a fresh new year ahead that makes me want to give myself a kick in the butt.
Speaking of a kick in the butt, yesterday morning I woke up extra early and dragged my butt to the gym. One thing I would love to do more often next year is fit in more of these pre-work sweat sessions. It starts the day off on the right foot and just sets the tone for a positive, strong work day.
What got me out of bed so early? My phone, which is my alarm clock, is actually charging on a wall further away from my bed. This means I can’t just roll over and hit snooze a thousand times, then feel bad about sleeping through a work out. By having my phone plugged in away from my reach, it forces me to physically get OUT of bed. Nine times out of ten as soon as I am out of bed, I either have to pee, let the dog out, or both, and so it makes it a bit easier. Plus, when you are getting all suited up in your workout gear whilst still half asleep, it’s almost as if your brain doesn’t even realize what’s about to happen ; ) A little trick that can turn your whole day around! I ended up running 5km and getting in a quick upper body workout that consisted of dumbbell pull-ups, bent over rows, bicep curls, and some planks for extra core work. Another thing I need to starting now and for next year = more core work!
Now, I will leave you with a picture of our delicious dinner. We sauteed a bunch of mixed veggies (carrots, purple cabbage, dinosaur kale, onion, and red peppers) and cooked up some salmon that Ryan caught on a fishing trip this summer. I seasoned my salmon with salt, lemon pepper, and rosemary, and added a generous squeeze of lemon over everything because, well. I live for lemons and can never get enough of them! Simple and delicious.
