Which means another round of #FitTipFriday.
Today we are bringing it back to basics. Bringing it back to nature, if you will. Today’s tip is easy in theory, but many people struggle with this idea, especially during the winter months. Drum roll please.
I know. It’s cold outside, the bed is so warm, I’m tired after work, I am too “busy.” <— (Side note: Nobody is TOO busy. If something is a priority, you will find the time for it. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. The only difference is how you spend that time). Why not spend a few moments outside? During the winter season it is so easy to stay curled up inside on the couch, Netflixin’ and chillin’. I get it. I am tempted, too! However, I know that my goals are not going to be reached by doing nothing. Although it can be hard to gear up for an early morning run, or even a walk after work for that matter, but being outside has so many health benefits, no matter the season.
Simply by going outside, you give your brain a break from being overstimulated. We live in a society that is SO PLUGGED IN. It’s crazy! While social media and technology is great, getting outside for a breath of fresh air can help you clear your head and refocus. Plus, there’s no glare from the computer screen as you look up to the sky. When is the last time you went for a walk on a trail and just enjoyed the surroundings – without your phone? On the same note, spending time outdoors can improve your mood. Who doesn’t love a little sunshine?! Goodbye, mental fatigue. Hello, energized mind.
You don’t have to go for a walk or a run, either. Simply sitting outside can do the mind and body good. Throw a ball around for your dog. Meditate outside. Do some yoga on the deck. It all counts! Remember when I chatted about slowing down the other day? Yeah, it’s important, and I find the simple act of going out for air helps me reset. Your mind & body will thank you!
I hope you all have a great weekend! Let me know in the comments how you plan on getting outside this weekend : )
