What’s the Scoop: Dry Brushing

You guys. If you are a skincare junkie like me, you will love today’s post. It’s not about skincare (in a product sense), but it IS about one way you can maintain clear, glowing skin – all of your body.

It’s called dry brushing, and it is amazing.

Dry brushing has been around for ages and uses a brush with natural bristles to gently buff away dead skin cells on the body. When dead skin cells accumulate, they leave our skin looking dull, dry, and tired. Dry brushing is an excellent way to revive and exfoliate your skin without having to spend hours on skin treatments. Plus, dry brushing is cheap and effective (I found my brush at the local health food store for $8). A quick brush before hopping in the shower is all I do!

Dry skin brushing is a great way to wake you up in the morning and get your blood flowing. Plus, it doesn’t take long for your skin to start detoxing. The skin is the LARGEST organ in your body. Can you imagine how hard it has to work against all the lotions and potions we slather on? Not to mention the outside world and the elements. Dry brushing helps detoxify our skin naturally and eliminate toxins that accumulate on our skin.

What other benefits does dry brushing have? Well, lemme tell ya:

– Helps to reduce cellulite

– Exfoliates the skin without using harsh chemical exfoliators or drying products

– Stimulates the lymphatic system (which helps remove waste and toxins from the body)

How do you do it? Dry brushing is easy. I like to start with my hands and gently run the brush over my fingers, then up my arms in sweeping motions. You will feel a tingly sensation – that’s your lymphatic system waking up & your blood moving! Then, I go to my feet, brushing upwards in the direction towards my heart. Be careful in sensitive areas like your chest. No need to go crazy there on delicate skin. Then, make your way to your back and brush upwards. Having a dry skin brush with a longer handle definitely helps in this area. You can sweep over your body several times before hopping into a warm shower to rinse off.

You tell me: are you a fan of dry skin brushing?
