Good morning! Happy Friday. Who else is reading this with coffee in hand? Or are you having your breakfast?
Speaking of breakfast, today’s fit tip is FUEL UP!
Whether you are a breakfast fan or not, it is important to fuel your body with foods that make you feel good. This applies to all of your meals and snacks! In particular, for me, my breakfast usually consists of either oatmeal or eggs. I try to sneak in greens where I can, so eggs is a perfect way to do this. Starting your day off with a healthy meal will help promote better food choices throughout the day, too. Additionally, your brain needs food to function properly, and if you are a gym addict, running fanatic, or overall fitness enthusiast, you NEED food to help power those workouts. Yesterday I went for a run on my lunch break and hadn’t eaten anything other than an apple hours before my run, and I came back hangry. Fortunately I had some healthy grab and go snacks in reach once I got home, but that also takes some prep work. That’s a whole other blog post, but in short: EAT. You can’t drive your car without gas in the tank, so why would you force your body to go through the day to day tasks on empty?
Some of my favourite ways to fuel up in the morning:
Oatmeal, always. 1/3 cup dry rolled oats (I use the Rogers brand in the dark blue bag) with a shake of chia seeds, lots of cinnamon, and cooked with water. Sometimes I will add in a splash of almond milk if I want it a little more creamy and dreamy. I will either top it with blueberries, raspberries, or banana, and lately I have been loving topping my oats with hemp seeds for extra protein and healthy fats! Add a scoop of almond butter and dangggg, you’re good to go. And coffee. Always coffee.
So, it doesn’t look pretty but it tastes amazing. I usually just toss in tons of veggies (great way to use veggies that need to be cooked!) and top it with a couple of over easy eggs. Does anyone else love that moment when the yolk breaks!? These are the things I live for. No, I’m not hard to please.
Other yummy ideas include smoothies, yogurt bowls (I have recently discovered coconut milk yogurt & I am loving it, since my digestive system gives me grief for days after eating dairy), egg white muffins (put ’em in a muffin tin for great grab and go snacks), homemade breakfast granola bars, etc.
Well, I am off to finish my oatmeal! ; ) I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday filled with good FUEL and delicious coffee, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend ahead!
