Showing Up for Yourself

 

Hey everyone! How’s it going? I don’t usually do an extra post on the weekend but I wanted to talk about a topic that I think is so important and that I hold near and dear to my heart: showing up for yourself.

It’s pretty easy to put yourself on the back burner. We are all busy people. We have lives, jobs, animals, friends, family, kids, hobbies, etc. We all have things that pull our attention in different directions and make our minds race a million miles per second. However, where do we fit into that? By “we” I mean YOU. Where do you fit into all of the madness?

This thought came about on Thursday when I was debating whether I fit my workout in after work, or if I call it a rest day and do my workout on Friday. Mentally my mind wanted to do it. Physically my body felt good enough to do it. However, I was feeling this lazy-ass pull to “do it later.” What gives? I decided that I needed to SHOW UP FOR MYSELF and do it. No excuses. Get it done. It was part of my plan in the morning, so why let that slip just to sit on the couch and watch TV? There’s plenty of time for that even after a quick run.

Now, don’t get me wrong. We can’t apply the “show up for yourself” mentality to everything, because sometimes we have to show up for other people. Yes, people need us, and we do have to take care of others. However, you must carve time for yourself, whether that’s calling a time out and reading for twenty minutes, taking a bath, going for a spa service. You know what I did this afternoon? I got a pedicure. Just because I needed to show up for myself and show myself some love after a long run and a busy morning. While this may not be your way of showing up for yourself, find what works for you and go with it.

If getting a good sweat in makes you feel amazing, then do that. If going for a walk or chatting on the phone with a good friend for hours clears your mind, then do that. Do whatever makes you happy. What is stopping you?
