The Importance of Rest & Slowing Down

Good morning! Today I wanted to chat about why it is so important to give yourself time to rest and relax. Whether this is taking time to yourself for a bath, a glass of wine, reading a book for fifteen minutes – whatever it is – it is so beneficial for our mental and physical health to slow the F down!

So, let’s get into things, shall we?

We live in a society where BUSY is always better. For some reason, being “so busy” is glorified and you just can’t keep up. This mentality can make you feel as if you aren’t doing enough. Nope, not enough exercising, not dieting hard enough, not eating clean enough, not doing enough with family, friends, work, THIS, THAT and everything else that piles on top. When does it stop!? I admit, it can be so easy to fall into this attitude. When I first started my running journey I would read bloggers who did half marathons every weekend with a few marathons thrown in there too. Although I was doing the best that I could given my fitness at the time, I felt like it wasn’t enough. Looking towards others for motivation can be a good thing, but it’s important to step back too and remind yourself that you are ENOUGH as you are, in this moment, right now.

Comparison is the thief of joy

Keep that little quote in mind next time you find yourself thinking that you aren’t doing enough. Sometimes you just have to sit back and let yourself rest. Chances are, you are most likely doing A LOT. There is a lot to juggle in life, especially if you have kids, pets, family matters, work, school, you name it. When you take a step back to breathe, you are also doing wonders for your mental and physical health. Your brain is on overload when you take on too many tasks, and your body doesn’t benefit from all that added stress. In fact, when your body is stressed that can promote illness, inflammation, and make you feel downright exhausted. Does that sound fun? NO. Not at all. So make sure you take some time to rest.

Put a face mask on, drink some tea, lounge on the couch with your dog and watch New Girl. Or, watch a movie, read a book/magazine, call a friend. Veg out for a little bit and let your mind and body relax!

On that note, I am off to refill my tea & get the day started. Hope you have a beautiful day!
