Hey! Good morning.
How was your weekend? Today is technically my Sunday, so I wanted to recap what’s been going on lately.
You might be wondering, “Why is there no floor in that bedroom, Holly?” Well, it’s because we are redoing the floor in all three bedrooms upstairs. We took on this project after (impulsively) purchasing 37 boxes of laminate flooring last Monday, so now we can’t really look back!
In all honesty though we have been wanting to do this for a while. We were pricing out carpet vs laminate, and when we came across this screaming deal, it was hard to say no. So, we bit the bullet and then piled all 37 boxes in the back of my Jeep.
Yeah, I’m shocked they all fit in there, too! I don’t think we could’ve squeezed another one in, so it definitely made for a slow ride home as my suspension was… Well, not so bouncy, so fortunately we didn’t hit any bumps!
Ryan has been working away at laying the floor, and we got one bedroom finished yesterday. Oh, did I mention we are also painting the ceilings and replacing all the baseboards? Yeah, we are suckers for punishment I suppose. It looks great though (update to come)!
Now that I am working on Saturdays, my running schedule has changed. I would usually have Friday and Sunday as my rest days, but now that has switched to Sunday and Tuesday, with my long runs falling on Monday. We will see how it goes as I have never done my long runs during the week! I’m sure it won’t make a huge difference since it is the consistency and regular schedule that counts the most!
After getting home from work, I decided to use some over-ripe bananas and make some banana bread. I used half all purpose and half whole wheat flour, and also snuck in some chia seeds for extra fibre. Ryan doesn’t know, so the only way he will find out is if someone squeals on me or if he actually reads this post ; ) I also added chocolate chips, because a life without chocolate is a sad, sad life indeed and everyone needs more chocolate in their life!
Other Saturday night activities included helping Ryan lay some flooring (yeah, you could say I’m pretty handy), scrubbing the cupboards, taking out the garbage & compost (glamorous!), cleaning the kitchen, drinking tea, and watching tv. Oh, and my sister slept over which was fun, but by the time she got home after a dinner out with some friends, we basically crashed on the couch and showed each other funny memes on our phone before going to bed. That’s what sister’s are for, right?
I wanted to get a somewhat early start to my day yesterday as I wanted to pick up a new pair of running shoes. I have been feeling some pain in my hips after wearing my Asic shoes, so I went back to my tried and true favourites: Mizuno Wave Inspire 13. If you have followed me for a while you know that I had tried Asics before and promptly returned them to the running store. I’ve also deviated and gone with Brooks, but Mizuno will always hold a special place in my heart. My body likes them, they are supportive enough for me, and sometimes you just gotta stick with what works!

I also picked up some watermelon Nuun hydration tabs, a salted watermelon Gu gel (which I’ve never had before – will report back!) and some socks, because you get a pack of three and they were 25% off. They also have a free Running Room magazine, so of course I had to pick that up.
Aaand that’s about it! I rested more yesterday, and I have my first athletic therapy appointment at 11:30am today, so I will be sure to recap how that went on the blog this week : ) I hope you all had a fabulous weekend – catch ya tomorrow!

The wonders of a short week, hey? This Wednesday came up fast!
I wanted to share with you some goodies I purchased on Monday. It’s not much, but it’s enough that I wanted to share with you guys. If you know me at all, you know a few of my favourite things to shop for are candles, skincare, and anything to do with fitness gear. What can I say? I like wearing my yoga pants whilst face-masking. Don’t we all do that? I am happy to report that this mini shopping haul combines all of those things, too ; )
So, without further wait, let’s get into the haul!
Surprise, surprise. I have been super into candles lately, even moreso than usual. Winners/Home Sense carries this brand called Siren Fine Fragrances and this is probably the third candle I have purchased from the brand. The scents are clean and fill your home with this beautiful aroma that lasts almost all day. Plus, candles just create such a nice ambiance and makes the perfect addition to a relaxing night in!
Oh, speaking of relaxing… You can’t go wrong with a face mask! I am actually wearing one of these babies as I type (yes, and there is a candle burning next to me). I picked these up from Winners and as you can see, they aren’t crazy expensive. You can get 5 in a pack for the price of ONE sheet mask from Sephora. I love me some Sephora goodies, but if I can save some money on skincare then I will certainly look for a comparable product for a lower price.
Finally, we are at workout gear. After my run on Monday I realized how little winter running-wear I have. So, I made it my mission to find some layering pieces that will keep me warm on the run. The blue pullover is from Asics and has a fitted hood in case you need some extra warmth but don’t want to wear a hat. Bonus: keeps your ears warm. It has some thumb holes to protect your hands, and a kanagroo-pouch type of pocket. It was $29.99.
The pullover is from a brand called Layer8. I haven’t seen this brand before, but it looks promising! The inside of the pullover is a brushed, almost fleece-like material that feels super warm and cozy. Like the Asics top, it also has thumb holes. Although it has no hood, it has a higher neck that zips up to keep your neck warm.
I will be testing these out this week and will have a review for you on the blog next week!
