By 7AM my workout for the day was (mostly) finished, aside from some walking I did before/after work. Mostly the 1.5 mile walk that pops up on my DailyMile account (and the blog) is comprised of going to the skytrain for work and back home at the end of the day. This obviously happened after 7AM. Anyway, I did an easy 3 miles this morning & a bit of ab work. Long run tomorrow? Maybe. That’s what I’m leaning towards anyway!
Then, after getting myself ready for the day I made a bowl of oats. In the mix went: just under 1/2 cup oats, mixed nuts, fresh strawberries & banana, a scoop of chocolate protein powder, raisins & sunflower seeds. It was even more delicious than usual this morning – must try to recreate this!
Does anyone else feel incomplete in the morning without coffee? I tried to drink green tea every morning instead of coffee. TRIED. This lasted for a week before I finally broke down & brewed some coffee. However, I haven’t done that no-coffee thing for a while. It is way too good to pass up & gives a kick start to the morning.
So, with one cup of coffee in me I headed off to work. Brandon actually drove me to the skytrain this morning, so I made up for the lost walking time by browsing around the mall. I also forgot my food in the work fridge, so I got to school & began to sift around my bag for the container and alas. Not there. Oh well, walk back to work and pick it up! Getting back to that coffee though, I stepped into a Starbucks and got a soy Americano misto with caramel, half sweet. So0o0o0o fancy! Not. That was great and put a bit of pep in my step before class. Nothing like a hot beverage to warm you up, too!
And nothing like a new purchase to make you smile:
Even better: when you have a 20% off coupon to use towards them. Oh and that textbook? Yeah I could’ve bought like ten pairs of those shoes for the price of that book (I’m cheap, whatever!).
Good night! I’m off to watch the rest of Center Stage before I hit the hay. I have a day off tomorrow, then back at ‘er again.
The Vancouver Sun Run 10K is done! Ba-da bing, ba-da boom; another race in the bag & another bib to put up on my wall! I am really proud of myself for pushing through (literally, pushing through crowds just to keep my pace) & keep going even when times got tough (like running into a billion kajillion walkers that should have their own event. I’m not bitter at all. Oh & that one hill up Howe). My mantra of Sunday’s race was: “I don’t stop when I’m tired. I stop when I’m done.“ Yes, I know. So wise, so wise.
A random mish mash of workouts from Sunday – other than that I have just been walking around today. I may get my ab on later, but I kinda sorta have other plans. And I don’t really feel like it (remember that Spongebob post?).
I was a little disappointed to see that I had run more than the 6.2 miles. Maybe if there weren’t so many random walkers and children wandering around then the people actually there to run could get a good pace going without being interrupted by Grandma Gertrude’s walking brigade honing in on all sides of the course. Runners run the tangents! Walkers… walk somewhere else! Okay, that felt good to get off my chest. In all seriousness though I really shouldn’t complain, because I beat my last 10K race time by 3.5 minutes & that’s a GOOD thing, despite how many crowds I had to run elbow-first through (yeah if you have bruises from a girl in a pink shirt, black spandies & purple runners… That wasn’t me).
Now, let’s talk about good things.
I pick up loose change wherever I go, even the pennies that people carelessly throw behind. I’m kind of in a transition phase right now in the work and school sense. New semester at school & I’m looking for more work. I’m hoping all those lucky pennies I find will pay off sooner or later. Just today I found one at the skytrain before heading to an interview. I am the kind of person who says YES to everything and (mostly) everyone. If you want me to do this for you, I’ll do it. If you need me to do something, I’ll do it. I am pretty easy going, that’s for sure, but lately I have been looking out for me and my happiness & I am taking the steps to getting there. This includes finishing school, running & hopefully making more money. Do you ever get tired of busting your ass for nothing? When is enough really enough?
Okay, now that I have left you with all those deep thoughts, I’m going to have my (late) dinner. Salmon & roasted veggies and possibly a movie tonight – or at least some lounging and TV time. Good night!
I was going to run 3 miles today to get an extra run in before the Sun Run 10K tomorrow, but… As Spongebob says, “Nah, I don’t really feel like it.” So, I just ate some oatmeal, drank coffee & browsed my favourite blogs (as per every morning of my life. I’m so fun).
Back to that oatmeal..
1/2 cup oats, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use a soy protein. Yeah, yeah, soy is controversial, but it’s not a HUGE part of my diet & I don’t have it every single day/multiple times a day), 1 tsp. cocoa powder, 1 tbsp. sunflower seeds, some raisins, 1/2 banana, then topped with more raisins/banana/almonds and cooked with almond milk & water.
And coffee x 2. And then a half cup of coffee after Brandon left for work (and the reason why I’m still up writing this post when I should be in bed). I can’t get enough of coffee. If only I could drink 3L of it every day like I do water. That wouldn’t be excessive or bad at all, would it? Wishful thinking.
Let’s talk about food.
Anyone else feel me on this one? Luckily I don’t turn to horrible things when I’m hungry. For the most part my apartment is stocked with healthy eats such as nuts, tons of fruit & even more veggies. Speaking of, I need to get more tomorrow! However, I broke down and bought a bag of 5cent candies on my walk home from work today. Sometimes you just have to give into that sweet tooth!
My carb tooth was also knockin’ when I came home. I had a simple bowl of whole wheat pasta with spinach and marinara sauce. Nothin’ fancy, but those carbs will be ready to be burned off tomorrow – right with the toast/pb/banana I’ll have in the morning (my usual race-day breakfast).
Are you a healthy snacker? Or do you tend to crave sweet/salty/fried foods?
